A REMARKABLE ACCIDENT.

THREE CABS TELESCOPED BY RUNAWAY HORSES. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Fob. 26. A strange accident happened hi Hereford Street between High Street and Manchester Street this afternoon. Two horses attached to a van belonging to the'New Zealand Express Co. bolted down the street towards High Street a.t a gallop. In their career they reached 1 the end of a lufig line of taxi-cabs pulled up on the stand there. As soon as the horses got close to the last taxi-cab- they tried to go on each side of it, with the result that one of the horses ran along the ridit side of the cab. but the other one dashed into the back of it with his head and shoulders, and the back of the car was splintered, the iron-work being twisted in all directions. Hie force of the impact thrust the cab forward. It‘collided violently with the cab in front, and in that way three of the cabs were telescoped. The first and second were somewhat severely damaged, the third to a. less degree, and a fourth had its rear lamps crumpled up. Hie driver in the first cab had a very narrow escape from being badly injured. A passer-by, who saw the horses coming, cried out to him, and he just had time to jump out of his cab before the collision took place. The horses were uninjured.
