Mr , Wm. Miller will return from Auckland on Wednesday next. Our Wellington correspondent wires that Sir James Carroll and Mr W. D. S. MacDonald, M.P., intend to remain in Wellington for a few days. They will probably arrive at Gisborne by Wednesday’s steamer. Among the passengers from the south by the Victoria this morning will be Hon. A. T. Ngata. Mr. Brook, who was recently transferred to Gisborne to fill the office of Land 1 Officer and Inspecting Surveyor, lias been-appointed a member of tlie Tairawliiti Native Land Board, in place of Mr. F. G. Bullard, who' was appointedl Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Taranaki district. The Chief Postmaster. Mr. W. H. Renner, will to-day commence a Wellearned holiday of one month. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the promotion of Lieutenant- Claude John Hamilton, of the 9tli (Wellington-East Coast) Mounted Rifles, to the rank of captain. Acting-Sergeant Bernard Malone (Troop Sergeant No. 3 Troop, A Squadron 9th Wellington-East Coast Mounted! Rifles), ’has applied for arid lias been granted leave of absence, on account of ill-health, till May 31st, 1912. Sergeant William Leslie Coleman has been appointed 2nd lieutenant (9tli Mounted Rifles) supernumerary to the eshabHisihment, and Lieutenant Coleman lias been appointed troop leader of No- 4 (Makauri) Troop. During Sergeant Malone’s absence Corporal William Roland Graham will act as troop sergeant of No. 4 (Makauri) Troop, with the temporary rank of sergeant.
