MOUNT MORCAN RETURNS.
YIELD AFFECTED BY STRIKE
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT] BRISBANE, March 6. During February the Mount Morgan gold' reduction works treated 5254 tons of ore, which produced 36500zs of gold. The copper reduction works treated 17,784 tons for 512 tons blister copper, containing 5070zs copper and 73200zs of gold. The yield was affected by a strike of a section of the men controlled from Brisbane, causing a temporary shutting up of tbe works. JUMPED INTO A FURNACE. / A TERRIBLE FATE. PARIS, March 5. Albert Koenig, a driver in the service of the Eastern France Railway, when suffering from neurasthenia, threw himself into the furnace of the train while travelling at full speed, and was burned to death. GERMAN TARIFF REFORM PREDICTED. QUESTION OF PRIVATE AND " STATE MONOPOLIES. BERLIN. March 5Herr Debrueck (Minister for the Interior), iu the Reichstag, stated that the foreign industry had grown stronger. Tariffs had not helped Germany against protectionist countries, but freetrade England had taken anything foreigners thought to grow.' Private .monopolies might become more dangerous than State monopolies. Germany might have to gradually transform private into State monopolies, though the time was not ripe yet. THE LONDON STREET SENSATION. TEBBITT REMANDED. LONDON, March 5. The condition of Detective Berg, who was wounded by Tebbitt when the latter endeavored to shoot Mr. Leopold Rothschild- is serious. Mr. Rotnschild states that he knew Tebbitt when he was a boy. He had helped! him on several occasions, and finally sent' him to Australia. Tebbitt was remanded. The All India Moslem League lias proved of the transfer of tbe capital. It bitterly deplored the annulment of the partition of Bengal, as having the appearance that the authorities were ready to* make concessions to seditious clamors. Aga Khan is resigning the presidency of the All India Moslem League. This is attributed to his acquiescing in the breaking of pledges to the Mohammedans of Eastern Bengal. CANADIAN CADETS ON TOUR. SIXTY TO VISIT AUSTRALIA. OTTAWA, March 5. Official permission has been accorded Vancouver cadets to tour Australia. Three men have been arrested at Frankfort-on-main for betravingmilitary secrets. They include a German mechanic, who wrote to the French Embassy, offering drawings and details of the new Ivrupp gun and a projectile. Count Pauli Wolff-Matternich (German Ambassador in London) accuses Lieutenant Becfclians, from whom he alleges he won £350 in London, of espionage in England, under the direction of the German military authorities, sending repdrts regularly to the German Government.
