BOWLING.

GISBORNE CLUB

A committee meeting of the Gisborne Bowling Club was held at-, the Club House yesterday afternoon, Mr W. Pettie, president, presiding. The principal business of the meeting was., to perfect arrangements in connection with the. approaching Easter Tournament, to be held on Good Friday. Easter Saturday and Monday. It was estimated that the steamer arrangements would admirably suit the convenience of Southern bowlers, The s.s. Tarawera woidd leave Napier on Thursday night, arriving here on Easter Friday morning, while the s.s. Monowai would make a daylight trip from.-Napier on Monday, enablig the bowlers ;to , return south ,on Monday night. Catering arrangements were completed for the tournament. All bowlers and visitors will be able to obtain luncheon an afternoon tea in the pavilion.

A Reception and Entertainment Committee were set up, the General Committee of the Club being elected a- Reception Committee, while the President (Mr W. Pettie) the lion, secretary (Mr L. T. Brown), and Mr A. S. Hookey ware /appointed an Entertainment Committee. It was stated that there aas a prospect of a large number of Hawke’s Bay bowlers coming to Gisborne to take part in the tournament, which' should be one of the most successful held here for some seasons past. Two new members were proposed for election.

The Club lias recently had a report from Mr H. H. Benson, green keeper of the Kelburrxr and Hataitai Bowling Clubs, of Wellington, and acting on bis advice, it was decided to put in hand the work of topdressing and re-sowing the large directly after the Easter Tournament. Various other suggestions from Mr Benson will also be adopted, which should greatly improve the playing qualities of the greens next season.
