|(to THE EDITOR.)

.Sir,—When passing the High School in -Stanley Road- I 'have, 'been struck with tih© almost complete alb-' fiance oil' any attempt to beautify the surroundings. The High (School as well situated, having live acres of level .land round it ; hut no flowers ore visible. There is just a bare expanse of unkept ground. The small piece df land .surrounding the Hugh School hoys’ hoarding house is in much the sarnie state. Some of the country schools set -a good example in the way of keeping school grounds in order, and planting and caring for flowers and .shrubs. onmoiul School is p.nrticularlv aioticeaibffle in this way, and even the compara lively recently erected _ Mill Town School has something an the way of a. garden. At thg public school in Dei-by 'Street a little, gas also 'been, dome towards beautifying the immediate surroundings. There are many neglected pieces < f land in and- laround Gisborne, ami it is a pity that the school grounds should be added to the list. It scons to me that a very important part of the education of boys and girls being neglected when they are uot taught to care for tree© and l j-’tuxts " nd *"'*“-* -nnks.
