The Shipping and Seamen Amendment- Act. 1911. lias received the Royal. assent, and a proclamation Avill shortly be issued bringing it into force on May 1. The Act provides for the . proper safeguarding of a seaman’,s interest Avheu li e lias been left on shore through illness. The onus is placed on the owners in such, cases of .provid_ ing the cost of maintenance and medical and other attendance on seamen and for the cost of his burial where the illness or accident terminates in hi,3 death. For a .breach of these and other provisions' of a similar kind a penalty ot £IOO is provided.
