CONTEST FOR THE SHIELDS. The inter-club regatta was continueo yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large number of spectators. The weather was again favorable and the three events that were decided t reduced interesting contests. Gisborne defeated Uawa in I'm L.V.A. Junior Fours, and Poverty Pay beat the Coast represent irises again in the Youths Double Sculls for the Colley Shield. Poverty Bay also defeated Gisborne in the ICst went for the same trophy. The position of the clubs in respect to. the two trophies is: Licensed Victuallers’ Shield. —Gisborne .(Juniors, Youths and Juniors final) 3 wins, Poverty Bay (Seniors; 1 win, Uawa nil. Colley and Co.’s Shield.- —Uawa (Seniors, Juniors, Youths) 3 wins, Poverty Pay (Youths final, and 10st) 2 wins, Gisborne nil. The details of yesterday’s raeiug arc as. follows: Licensed Victuallers’ Shield. Junior Fours. —Gisborne (A. L. Winter, C- R. Moore, A. G. Gerrard and F. Daniels) beat Uawa (R. Moore, F. Williams, A. Hicks and M. Nelson). Gisborne had about three-quarters of a length’s advantage at the Roebuck Road bridge, and were over a length to the good at the footbridge. Easily holding their own to the finish they won comfortably by four lengths. Cclley and Co’s Shield. Youths Double Sculls (final). —Poverty Bay (N. Ingram and J. Dloycl) beat Uawa (J. Thompson and G. Moore). Poverty Bay led all the way and won comfortably by a couple of Jengths. lost Doubie Sculls.—Poverty Bay (0. Hansen and 0. Clark) beat Gisborne (I. J. Quigley and H. Pycroft). Poverty Bay again had an advantage all the wav and won by a length. The regatta will be continued again tin’s afternoon at 1.30 o’clock. N.Z. ROWING .ASSOCIATION. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, March 20. The executive of the New Zealand Rowing Association has decided to forward the secretary’s report in regard to the amateur definition to tne various associations within the next few days, and a special meeting of delegates will he helcT in Wellington on June 1 to consider the matter. The meeting will also consider the desirability of setting; up fi special committee to inquire into the style of rowing adopted in New Zealand, and to report as to whether it can be improved.
