The fortunes of the ballot were poorly shared by Southern selectors who sought sections from the big area disposed of in Auckland recently. Hungry for land. 512 persons from all parts of the Dominion made 1939 applications, and SO of the men having been rejected by the Land Board there were 55 sections for distribution among 432 selectors. Less than a dozen persons whose present residence is out. side the Auckland province were successful in drawing sections, 45 being Tron by selectors from different parts °t the Auckland land district. the Sanitary Inspector reported to thd Be rough Council last .evening that, the majority of the places in Kaiti were clean and well’ kept. In some places where the sections were low and small it was difficult to know how to advise the householders to dispose of their waste water.. The only means available at the present time was to distribute over the cultivated soil- The majority of dwellings in Whataupoko were well kept, but- others ns regards the distribution of waste water were similar to Kaiti. However, the best was being done under the existing circumstances. Poultry runs in places were far from satisfactory. Regarding the congested area the position was satisfactory.
