Of' the many good horses got by Seaton Delaval perhaps the best was Nonette, who, among other good races, won the A.It.C. Handicap, Northern Champagne Stakes, Auckland Guineas, A.R.C. Wellington Stakes, Easter Handicap, Avondale Stakes, Guineas and Cup, and Wanganui Cup. Nonette lias been stationed in Central Queensland for some years, where, of course, his chances of success at the stud have been few. He has, however, sired a number of winners. One of the best is Lettie, who has won several races, her latest success being in the Park Handicap at Albion Park, Brisbane, in which she beat a field of six. The mare also annexed the St. Patrick’s Handicap, the big event of the Q.T.C. Meeting.
A writer in the Canterbury Times suggests that as there is no possibility of Counterfeit and Bronze meeting in an advertised race this season, a match might be arranged between the pair to take place at the Wellington Autumn Meeting. Now this seems a really capital idea. It would be a most sporting event in every sense, and if it could be brought about, the Wellington Club might be prepared to offer a handsome trophy. The proposal-is one that will meet with universal approval in sporting circles, and it is to be sincerely hoped that Sir George Clifford and Mr Highden * will seriously consider it.
Bos Angelos and Culprit are reported to be in fine trim, and the Chokebore trio, Autumnus, Masterpiece and Heatherbrae, are also bowling along in good style.
Idealism (9.4), the Hon.- J. D. Ormond’s . Brighton Hurdle.. Sac-e representative, is most in favor for that event. On Monday a rumor was current that all was not well with this equine, but so far it lacks confirmation. ,
Winning Way was recently spelled, and doubts are expressed as to her being quite ready to do herself justice at the C.J.C. Autumn Meeting. This being so, Autumnus will really be the only two-year-old Ermengarde will have to beat in the Chrtihpagne and Challenge Stakes-
Bonny Glen, who has had repeated attacks of bleeding, showed signs of soreness after a gallop on Saturday, ■following on which his off foreleg filled slightly. G. Murray-Aynsley has decided to abandon the attempt to prepare the horse for the Great Autumn Handicap, but as he is very well, and the meeting is so near at hand lie will be kept going in an effort to get him to the post for one of the minor events at iticcarton on Monday and Tuesday.
Delegate, the Phoebus Apollo—Pretoria gelding, who recently met with an accident while, schooling over the steeplechase course, is again attending the tracks at Ellerslie, but his work is of the light order.
The Birkenhead gelding Dawn, who had been shaping well under T. A. 'Williams’ guidance is reported to be amiss, which is unfortunate in view of the A.R.C. meeting.'
A. Jackson has recommissioned the Cuirassier gelding John, in the hope that he will.be able to take part in the important hurdle races tliis- winter.
Bogey, who figures in the Tramway Handicap at 7st, continues to shape well in his morning work at Ellerslie. Jii the race mentioned the Rambler gelding will be ridden by W. Percival. Parawai, who returned two large dividends on the second day at Ohinemiiri, is in the Nelson Handicap to be decided to-day with 7.6.
Crown Pearl, the stable companion to Royal Arms, is considered an unlikely starter for the A.R.C. Easter Handicap. Another improbable starter is Sea Elf.
Fuss (Explosion—Bother) appears likely to turn out useful over hurdles. •On Monday she was schooled over the pony fences by A. J. McFlvnn, and • shaped well for a beginner. * *
The Advance gelding Parewanui continues -to train -on satisfactoi ily at Levin. Mr Penfold’s galloper was accounted unlucky to lose at the Napier Park meeting. ' F- Carmont ;is sparing no pains in his effort to tune up Parewanui for the Feildmg meeting. # * * Mr Crossley, the local veterinary surgeon, says the N.Z. Times, has recently returned from a visit to Gisborne, where he operated, on Baldos for roaring troubles. The Wamku -elding, who is owned by Mr C.. J. Parker, has made a capital recovery from the operation, and will shortly be put into work with a view to com-'
peting in events at the back end o: the season.
F. Carmont, at Levin, is trying Thetis over a longer distance than she has so far been accustomed to traverse and up to the present her displays have been promising. The Advance mare gives indications of developing into a stayer and there is a probability of Mr F. G. Roe’s favorite being scon out in the principal events at the Feilding meeting. . * * * Prophet, who was showing a return to form, has been giving his patient trainer, J. Chaafe, some cause for anxiety of late, and may not stand the preparation necessary for hurdle events this coming winter. * * * All started for the Waipipi Cup at Mas.orton, says “Sir Bedivere,” the issue of .which was generally regarded as open. Sir Knox stripped well, though lie is a colt that never look's very robust. Sea Queen appeared to be rather on the jolly side, as did The Rover, but each ran a sterling good race and should soon again be in the money. Miscal stripped, as itsual, light and somewhat mean-looking, but each of the other Candida,—s was evidently in good trim. Mr Cameron was unfortunate in that what promised to be a first-class start was spoilt by Golden Loop whipping round just as the barrier rose and so losingeight- or ten lengths. Sea Queen and St Felix were the first to move, and running down the back the latter took command from Miscal, Sir Solo and Sir Knox. As the turn was negotiated St. Felix was clear out in front, whilst The Rover was now lying handy., Miscal put fin his claim at the distance, and overhauling St Felix in the last few strides got up in time to win by a hare head. Golden Loop was a good half-length away third, a neck in front of The Rover and Sir Solo. Had lie not lost ground at the start Golden Loop must have won handsomely. Red Lupin seemed to get a bad passage and Sir Solo appeared to run his race in patches.
Harenoa seems none the worse for his successful efforts in the country, and promises to run with credit at the A.R.C. Easter meeting.
Royal Irish is carrying himself well at present, and should run prominently at the A.R.C. meeting. This gelding reads well in the Nelson Handicap at 7.7.
Royal Arms, Jervis George’s A.R.C. Easter Handicap candidate, has a strong following for the - big mile event. J. O’Shea has been engaged to ride the son of Royal Artillery and Barley Bree in this race.
Monorail, the Great Northern Champagne Stakes colt trained by I*. Eoomb at Ellerslie. does not shape on the track with that dash which- brought him home a victor in the Avondale Stakes last spring.

Maxwell, the big brother to Sonltline, has been striding along well in his training work,, and should be in
the best of fettle for the Easter meeting- •* * * Maheno surprised the track watchers on Thursday by the manner in which she • outpaced Master Wairiki over seven furlongs, although she had an advantage in the weights. ..* * * The Auckland steeplechaser Hoanga has been awarded 12.2 in the Great Eastern- Steeplechase, 1000 sovs, 31 miles, to be run at the Onkaparinga meeting on Easter Monday. Sea Dog has 10.12 in the same race, V *•' * * *' * * \Y. Sharpe is. how training a gelding by Blueliglvb from The Flirt. This equine shows himself to be possessed of some pace, and as he was, only taken up a few months back, may be heard c-f later on. '~* * * AV ee Olga, registered a fine gallop on the course proper the .other morning, when she- beat Antoinette over eight furlongs. The little daughter of Merriwee quickly took charge and led all the way.
Sea Elf, who has not shown anything like form in her races this season, is looking well, and will be seen out at the Easter gathering. This marc is a useful galloper, but is a. very slow beginner.
Zinnia, the .little Explosion—Pansy mare, has been jumping the small fences at Ellerslie of late like a, gazelleIf ever an equine should jump, it is Zinnia, whose dam was a sister to the Great Northern Hurdle Race winner Belmont, by King Quail from Winnie, and also a half-sister to St. Simon. Pansy in her day was one of the boldest. of fencers, winning both hurdle and steeplechase events.

Geneva, the Obligado—Guinevere two-year-old is striding along freely at Ellerslie, and gives evidence of improvement in his morning essays.

A. McMillan, well 'known 1 as a lightweight horseman in Auckland a season or two hack, returned from Sydney, recently, and will be riding at Ellerslie to-day. He has been engaged to pilot the useful little Master TVairiki in the Easter Handicap.
First TVairiki, the disappointing son of TVairiki, . galloped seven furlongs nicely the other morning at EllerslieMr S. Bradley’s horse generally shapes well in his work, and J. McHugh always lias him locking well, but since his "fall in the A.R.C. Easter Handi-. cap two years ago, he has been most unreliable with the colors up.
Captain Soult lias not been at his best of late, the result of having caught a chiLf at the recent Oliinemuri meeting. a
Mira., who won the Masterton Hack Handicap, is a. grey fc-ur-year-old brother to Iranui, by Soult —Tauhei, a. sistej'to-Ufifiteen,"by Caster—Vivandiere. /He started five times last season without winning, his only claim to fame, his second to Danube in the St. Leger, being discounted ,by the fact that the oiilv -otherstarter. St Bees, went through the season without success, .though most of his racing was done in very - moderate company . It Has been 1 stated for some time past that'Mira was showing improvement, and his form at Masterton was certainly very promising.
Ben Jonson, the old Ben Godfrey jumper,' is putting in plenty of long and useful work, and is fining doun nicely. Should Ben stand another preparation he should pay his way ere the winter closes.
Goldsby, who 1 paid ban exceptional dividend when lie won the Dash .Hack Handicap at-Masterton, is a. five-yeai-old by. Gold Reef—Miss Catesby, by Catcsby (a son of Musket) from Pursesiring, a sister to Golden Orest, grand dam of Antumnus.

is one of the most fancied candidates for the A.R.C. Easter Handicap. Last week the Soult marc was responsible for two very smart training gallops, her performance . or or seven furlongs on Saturday being the. best of the morning. . In this spin she was accompanied by Miss Winsome, and with J. Chaafo in tub saddle, and Running on the outside, she-beat the latter in lmin 29 l-ssec.
C. Broivn will ride: last year’s victress, Antoinette, in' the A.R.C. Easter Handicap. This horseman, it is stated, may ride for Mr W. €'■ Ring in the future. * * _* Master Theory continues to be much ■fancied!, for the Brighton Hurdles, in which event he will ibe ridden to-day by J. Pinker. The son of Soult lias thoroughly recovered from the effects of his accident of last January. * * * After several most disappointing schooling performances over the steeplechase country the Freedom gelding Bully was sent over the hurdles on Thursday morning with Master Theory and Presently, -when lie fenced in good style.

When Featlierston won the Open Hurdle Handicap at the Akaroa County Club’s Meeting at the beginning ot the present month, lie created .a very favorable impression as a jumper. The.
