A 30.090 I;ofs9-))o we r tea tn-furo ln e, the most powerful engine ever built, was recently placed in service at_the Waterside station of the New i ork Edison Company. It will replace seven vertical .reciprocating. engines of 50CO horse-power each, which were built only 10 years ago- The new turbine occunies no more room than one of the engines of the older type, and will require the .attendance of. a small part only of the great number of enginemcn and oilers who were needed to keep the reciprocating engines running. It should, therefore, effect-a considerable reduction in the cost of electric power. According to the Engineering Record the turbine requires 7,200,0001 b. of steam daily.
