HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, April io, The High "Commissioner’s cable, dated London April 13, states : —Hie mutton market is quiet, but steady. Light-weights are reported to be in small supply. Canterbury is not quoted, hut the average price, is (nominally) 4kl, North Island 4d for lightweights; for heavy-weights, 3|}d. The lamb market is firm. There is a good demand for all lamb. Canterbury is at olid; other than Canterbury, 3g-d. The beef market is firm, and there is a. better demand. New Zealand hindquarters 4£d, forequarters 3fd. The butter market is dull, with less demand. Holders are disposed to meet buyers. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand butter is 121 s, Australian 117 s, Argentine 116 s, Danish 118 s, Siberian 117 s. For cheese there is a good demand; the average price for the week for finest New Zealand cheese is 73s 6tl. The hemp market is very quiet, and nothing was done. On spot, New Zealand good to failgrade £2l 10s, fair grade £2O, fair Current Manila £2l, forward shipment, New Zealand good fair grade £2O. 12s Gel, -fair grade £2O ss,’’ fair current Manila £2l 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 26,000
hales. The stock of New Zealand hemp is '289 tons. The wheat market is firm, with an improved demand. The oats market is firm. The cocks-foot-seed market is quiet. Buyers are not keen to do business in. cocksfoot seed. The mutton and lamb River Plate shipments received- during March, 1912, wore: London, mutton 51,601 carcases, lamb 37,292, Liverpool, 193,689 and 29,594; Hull, 11,138 and 1363; Newcastle, 8246 and 1353; Cardiff,‘63so and 1600; totals, 272,024 and 7062; March, 1911, 2.10,? 646 end 40,264.
