TRENTHAM TRAINING NOTES. FINAL GALLOPS. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. WELLINGTON, April 16. It was a fine mild morning for the Trentham gallops. The' grass gallop inside the rails was open for fast work, and afforded excellent going, While trainers also had the use of the g.and and tan tracks: Near! 3- all the candidates for the Thompson Handicap were exercising. Los Angelos, who did not put in an appearance until after breakfast, ran home from the half-mile post in 51 secs, and finished very well. Undecided (R. Hatch) was associated with Merrv Frank (C. Jenkins) and Sir Solo {light, hoy) in a gallop over six furlongs. Merry Frank got the' best of the start, but Sir Solo on the outside finished in front, and covered the distance in Imin 19secs, Undecided being close up, a head- in front of Merry Frank. Boanerges (A. Oliver) and Bronze (G. Price) finished together at the end of seven furlongs, run in Imin 32 3-osccs- ~.
Dearest (B. Deeley) and Gipsy Belle (Emerson) covered a similar distance together in Imin 32secs. Byron, who was one of the “after breakfast” division, shaped attractive! y while running the last four of five furlongs in Slsec. Midnight Sun, with Grandee as acompanion, got to the end of seven furlongs in Imin 33see.
Sir Knox easily defeated Ladv Volley over six furlongs in Imin 18sec. Effort was sent out to gallop five furlongs with Mira, but the pair finished at an easy pace, and it was then noticed that Effort was bleeding freely at the nose, a return of her old complaint. Sea- Queen (W. Price) hopped off at the six furlongs post and was picked up by Lambton at the half-mile, and the pair finished together, Sea Queen, who was shaping well, . covering the full distance in Imin 18-3-osee.
Merrivonia (W. Ryan) did useful work.
Khamsin (W. Price) covered a. mile in Imin 45 2-ssecs, but did not ap--pe.ar to finish very well. One of the best gallops of the morning was that recorded bv Autumnus (Emerson) and Heatherbrae (F. E. Jones), who were companions over six furlongs- Autumnus on the outside finished in front and covered the distance in Imin 16 4-ssee.
Styx (Telford) and Stepney (Dooley) ran four furlongs together in 51 secs.
Jan finished in front of Dirge over a similar distance, covered in similar time.
Glenfinnan and Brown Owl both moved nicely over five furlongs, run in Imin 5 2-ssecs, and Masterpiece, who Oiad the inside running, finished slightly in front of Counterfeit at the end of a mile, covered iml min 43 4-5 secs. This was a most attractivegallop. A really good gallop was that by Oliinee (W. Price) and Ineuru (C. Emerson), who rattled over four furlongs in a tick under Slsecs: Ineuru, on the outside, Held her companion apparently safe. Theodore ran the last six furlongs of a mile in Imin 20secs.
Culprit did strong three-quarter pace work, and sprinted home over the last part, while Bandiera, who bounded down the back of the course in great style, sprinted home over the last three furlongs in 39sees. Bon Ton and Bon Soil- covered half a mile together in 51 secs. Distinction and Te W a hero a finished together at the end of five furlongs. run in Imin 5 4-ssecs, and Stourton did two rounds at a strong three-quarter pace, and sprinted home in good style over the last three furlongs. Useful work was also accomplished by Haskyne, Bootle, Lady Kilcheran, St. Felix, Obligant, Torbelle, Peroneal, Lovell, Makara, Seaman, Toney, Abercord, and othersEffort was scratched for all engagements at the Wellington Racing Chib’s meeting at 3.45 p.m. yesterday. W. Ryan, who was to have ridden the Advance' mare in the Thompson Handicap, will now have the mount on Mira.. Ecmitas is not to be seen under silk at Trentham to-day. She was withdrawn from the Railway Handicap at 8 p.m. yesterday. Sir Solo is to- be ridden 'in the Thompson Handicap this afternoon by the apprentice Weller. Next to Bandiera, Theodore is one of the best backed horses in the Railway Handicap ,ta be run at Trentham to-day. Yesterday, the Merriwee horse was in keen demand in doubles, being coupled mostly with Lo s Angeles. . ~ Te Waharoa, who is engaged m the Silverstream Handicap at Tientliam to-morrow has been moving freely m his work since arriving here. W- Ryan is to have the mount on the Sylvia Park cel ding, and the same horseman will also steer Turna, Mira, Obligant, and Blue Lake The Soult geldmg Blakeney, who seems to have quietened down considerably as the result of his sea trip to Riccarton, is engaged in the VVaiwetii Handicap to-morrow, and judging uy the manner in which he has been galloping on the tracks, he will .prove a worthy opponent for Turna. It is raining to-night, and prospects lor the opening of the meeting arc notvery good. ■■
