MATAWHERO STOCK SALE. LARGE YARDING OF SHEEP. ■ The chief feature at the Matawhero stock sales yesterday was the large entry of store sheen and cattle of all descriptions. Altogether 16,000 sheep were yarded, an increase of nearly 3000 on the previous sale. This class comprised some good lines of two and four-tooth wethers and good quality lambs. The latter were well-grown, but on account of the turnip crop being backward, prices were easier. Shorn lambs declined fully Is 6d per head compared with the prices that were obtained at the previous sale. One line of 333 brought 9s and topped the market for shorn lambs. Wethers were only in fair demand. A line of 775 two-tootlis brought 12s Bd. About 700 cattle were yarded, comprising a good proportion of young sorts. There was fair competition at tire* commencement, but towards the end buyers had apparently satisfied their requirements and the sale was a very dragging one. There was only a fair demand’ for butchers’ cattle, but pigs sold well..
Cat Sheep. There was only a small entry of fat sheep and the demand, on the whole, was only fair.. Good wethers made from 13s Id to 13s 4d, and ewes from 9s 9d to 10s Bd, according to condition. I Fat Cattle.
Fat cattle were yarded in small numbers and the sale was rather dull.
Cows made from £3 19s to £5 10s, and bullocks £5 15s to £6 ss. Among the sales were five bullocks at £6 ss, one cow £5 ss, and 7 steers £5 ,15s. Siora Sheep.
The store sheep pens were particularly well-filled and the entry comprised some good wethers and lambs, the yarding containing a large proportion of the latter. There was only a' fair demand for wethers, while lambs showed a decline. Two-tooth sheep sold fairly well, but aged ewes .were* not sought after. Good two to four-tooth wethers made from 11s 4cl to 12s, ail'd extra uu to 12s Sd. Ewes 'realised up to Ss for medium and 10s 3d for good sorts. A line of four-tooths made .13s 2d and another consignment of two-tootlis 12s Id. Among the sales were: 362 lambs 9s 2d, 76 forward ewes 9s, .134 2-tooth wethers 12s 3d, 17 wethers 11s, 15 lambs 9s 6d, 61 2-tooth ewes 10s 3d, 3SO lambs 6s 3d, 103 ewes 9s 9d, 2-tooth wethers 10s, 194 4-tooth ewes 13s 2d, 552 2-tooth, wethers 12s Id, 400 hoggets Ss, 775 2-tooth wethers 12s Bd, 52 forward ewes 7s, 23 ewes--6s 3cl, 32 wethers 10s, IS ewes 7s 6d, 32 hoggets 9s, 192 2-tooth ewes 12s Id, 3pr 4-tooth wethers 12s 7cl, 207 2 and 4-tooth do. 12s 7d, 276 hoggets 7s 9d. 54 4-tooth wethers 11s 4d, 63 ewes 6s 4d, 87 hoggets 9s 10d, 110 ewes 5s 3d', 54S 2-tooth wethers 12s 6d, 800 2 and 4-tooth wethers 11s lid, to 12s 4d, 333 shorn lambs 9s, 1688 hoggets 6s Bcl to 10s. Store and Dairy Cattle. There was a very large yarding of store and dairy cattle, but on the whole, the sale "was very poor. Steers made from £3 6s to £5 ss, cows and heifers from £2 5s up to £5, extra from £5 15s to £6 12 6d, calves and 18-months from £1 to £2 ss. Pigs. About forty pigs were offered and thev were nearly all disposed of at satisfactory prices. Young porkers made from 10s to 17s, and suckers up to 6s. WESTFIELD STOCK MARKET. [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] , AUCKLAND, April 25. At Westfield fat- cattle were yarded in larger numbers than usual and sold at advanced rates. Prime ox sold to 17s per 1001 b: others, 24s to 265; cows and heifers. 19s to 225. _ Steers sold at from £5 7s 6d to £l2 ss; cows to £l2 ss; cows and heifers, £4 to £9 10s. Veal came forward in the usual numbers and sold well. Heavier vealers sold at from £3 to £3 18s; medium weights, £2 to £2 16s; others 20s to 345; smaller and fresli-drop-ped, 3s to los. Sheep were varded in larger quantities than usual, the yarding being principally of owe sheep. Wethers sold at from 13s 6d to IDs Gel; ewes 9s to 14s 3d: lambs, in full supply, sold at: for well ratted, 10s 9d to 14s 6d; others, 8s to 10s 6d. Pigs were penned in larger numbers “and sold at late rates. Baconers made £2 10s to £3 ss; large porkers. £2 to £2 6s; porkers, £1 7s to £l' Bis; slips, 20s to 265. LONDON 1 MARKETS.
