A MENACE TO PUBLIC HEALTH.
(to the editor.) Sir,—There are many ratepayers who will watch with considerable interest what takes place at the forthcoming meeting of the Town Council. The disposal of the metal supply and the. work upon which the Corporation’s outside staff is being employed is a very burning point at the present time. It seems to me that the work is not being done to the best advantages of the Borough. Why should so much time be concentrated on the footpaths in Wainui road when much more important wrok might be undertaken ? Uncpiestionablv, to use an Americanism, the whole of the available staff should he switched on to remedying the dreadful holes that are in some of the roads. All this finnicketty business about these fancy gutters and favoured footpaths might be dropped overboard for a month 'or two. Let the Council concentrate on the roads. There is only one exception that I * would make, and that is that time and material should be found to remedy the channel water holes at the intersection of the principal streets. The one at Customhouse Street in particular is a dirty, smellful, expansive cesspool which, besides being an eyesore, is a menace to the public health. Where are all their health inspectors when they allow such a state of affairs to exist?
I am, etc, ORMOND ROAD
