There was a"good attendance of members and enthusiastsThe report stated, inter alia: “Tho past season has been particularly successful, and one of the most important in the annals of hockey in the district, a* besides the Thursday competition we have also inaugurated a ladies’ competition and a men s Saturday competition. At present we liave 10 teams —seven men’s and three ladies’ —under our control, comprising about 200 players, and tho indications for the coming season promise an improvement, as several new clubs are forming, both ladies’ and gentlemen. Grounds: This is a matter of great importance t° ms. Me have to thank the Poverty Bay Rugby Union for the rent of one of the grounds on the Domain for tho Thursday competition, and also the High School Board of Governors and the principal of the Hi oh School for the use of their ground for the ladies’ competition tor the season. The men’s Saturday teams were at a loss for a ground altogether, until the Council kindly gave them leave to play on the Childers’ Road reserve in its then rough state. This season the matter of grounds will need special attention, as we have no grounds for our ladies’ and men’s Saturday competitions. Your executive has approached the Borough Council for the use ot two grounds on the Childers Road reserve, and trust it will help us out of our difficulty. Rules and by-laws: During the season the rules and bylaws of the Association were revised, and it behoves all players to make themselves, acquainted with tho same, as they will be strictly enforced m future. Finance: The financial position of the Association is on a fair basis, showing a credit* balance or £<l4 Is. This shows a decrease on last years balance owing to a heavy out-av in t-lie matter of material and assisting representative teams. Me trust dia,. with the aid of our officers and Olivers this season will show a big increase in the receipts. Me hope that with the hearty co-operation of ’-ho pi a vers the coming season will be a still further progressive one for hoeThe report was adopted. CHILDERS ROAD RESERVE. WHO SHALL HAVE THE USE OF IT? A PLEA FOR THE LADY HOCKEY ITES. The question as to which sports clubs should have the use of the Childers Road reserve cropped up at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening. The Engineer reported that during the week permission was given to the Association football players to practise on this ground, pending a decision of the Council re playing areas. He had been informed that the Hockey Association -was treated somewhat curtly by these players. The available area at present is 102yds by 140yds. This would allow one ground for the Association players 100yds by and one hockey ground 100yds by 55yds, with a ten-yard margin between boundaries. This would be ample for ordinary matches, and arrangements could bo made later for big matches. If this were not agreeable to the different clubs, then lie would suggest that exclusive rights be given the Association player.* for Thursdays, and the hockey players for Saturdays. _ The Poverty Bay Hockey Association wrote inquiring whether the Council intended throwing open the Childers Road reserve for use. of clubs this season. If so they wished to applv on behalf of the Association for consideration when .allotting the game.’

Cr. Collins pointed out that the male population was well provided for as far as playing grounds were concerned, but the female hockey players had been neglected.
