FOOTBALL.
P.B. RUGBY UNION, WEEKLY MEETING. The usual meeting of the executive iof the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held at the Masonic Hotel last eveniiig, there being present Messrs. A. R. Gotland (chairman), W. Howard. A. Kaipara, R- Somervell, E. Maude, J. Eaton, and W. S. Coleman. The Axemen’s Carnival Committee wrote ashing that, owing to the adverse weather, the rental for the Domain should be reduced. —A reduction of from £6 6s to bo £3 3s was granted. Mr W. Johnston was appointed delegate to the N.Z.11.U. annual meeti & cf. Mr. F. H. Snowden, secretary of the United Club, applied to have the disqualification imposed on E. E. I. Lutterell removed. The loss ot his services was felt greatly bv the United Olub. —It was decided to. “receive the letter. , . The Poverty Bay Cricket Association forwarded a cheque for £3 Is, bein'- 25 per cent, of the gross gate tattings bv the Association for the season ibll-12. —Received with thanks. At a subsequent special meeting of the Union, over which Sir James Lai - roll presided. Mr. Walter Howard was appointed solo selector for the fuith C X S r s: Deans moved that Mr. Howard should he appointed sole selector. He favored one selector, lhe •four cities of New Zealand weie warmly in favor of the sole selector scheme. Mr Woodward seconded the motion. Mr’. E. L- Maude moved, and Mr. ’McWiiirter seconded, as an amendment, that ia- Junior selector should he a ppointed as well as Mr Howard foi the. Seniors. . ’ Mr. Howard having expressed lnm-K'.-if willing to act for both Juniors ond Seniors, the amendment was •withdrawn, and the motion unanimouslv carried.
A JUNIOR TROPHY. PRESENTED BY SIR JAMES CARROLL. At the Rugby Union meeting last 3 tight, Sir James Carroll presented a trophy, valued at £2 2s, for competit'on among the junior teams, as arranged by the executive. UNITED CLUBA meeting of the United Club was held last evening at the British Empire Hotel. Mr"M. Guthrie was unanimously elected captain, and Mr G. Pollock vice-captain, Mr D. Sexton being elected Clulr captain. Mr J. Newton’s appointment as coach to the Club was, received with applause. The members intend to turn their attention to a system of training under their coach.
