A SEVERE EARTHQUAKE,
MINOR DAMAGE REPORTED

NEW PLYMOUTH, May 27
The severest earthquake since 1903 occurred at 6.3 p.m. yesterday. A few chimneys were overthrown, and other slight damages are reportedAUCKLAND, May 27. A sharp earthquake occurred at 6.5 p.nt. on Siynday. One chimney at Parnell fell with a. crash; otherwise no damage elsewhere is reported. INGLEWOOD, May 27. A smart shock of earthquake occurred at five minutes past six last night, the direction being from east to west, and tbe duration 50 seconds. HAWERA, May 27. There was a very sharp shock of earthquake at Hawera at five minutes past six last evening, lasting several seconds. TAIHAPE, May 27. A prolonged earth tremor, a sharp shock, was experienced at six infinites past six last night- The undulations were mild at first, working up to a shock, and then gradually subsiding. HAMILTON, May 27. A smart earthquake was experienced here, lasting thirty seconds, at six last evening. Country reports state that the shock was general. Old residents describe it as the most severe for 40 years. One jeweller’s shop at Hamilton had the window goods thoroughly mixed, and the glass smashed. WAIHI, May 27. A sharp' shock 'of earthquake was experienced here at 6 o’clock last night.
