Sometime ago, wires our Napier correspondent, several working men in Napier suggested that the valued services of Mr J. Vigor Brown, M.P., in connection with the commencement and prosecution of the Napier end of the East Coast railway should not he allowed to he forgotten, and that some suitable recognition of the, turning of the first sod shook! he made by the workers in Napier. The necessary money was collected without difficulty and the manufacture of a shield has now been completed. At a meeting of subscribers on Saturday evening it was decided to make the presentation to Mr Brown on Wednesday (this) evening. It is also proposed to make a presentation to the Mayoress at the same time. Mrs Brown’s presentation consists of beautiful solid silver table centre flower stand and a pair of vases to match.
