Hang a slate outside the back door every morning with the orders for each tradesman clearly written on it. This, find, saves much time to both.
To remove inkstains from linen, put melted tallow on the mark; then wash it out, when it will be found that both the ink and tallow have disappeared.. '. * * * Old brass can be made to look like new if scrubbed with a hard brush dipped in strong ammonia and rinsed with cold water. ■ * * When cake tins are worn thin scatter a little sand over the oven shelf before putting down the cake tin, and it will not burn in the baking. * * * If when making brown bread a tablespoonful of treacle is added, it will be found that the loaves will cut quite easily without crumbling.
If you want to paper a wall that has been whitewashed, brush over every part with equal quantities of vinegar and water, or the paper will not stick.
