A Fremantle cable states that Miss Grace Pa-lotta is a passenger by the Opliir from England.
A London cable states that Mr Campbell, the Australian representative on the Imperial Trade Commission, has arrived.
Mr. Reece, the billiardist, is a passenger to Australia by the Opliir (says a Fremantle cable). He will make a short stay of seven weeks in Australia, and will then visit New Zealand
A Wanganui P.A. message says that the funeral of the late Wiki Kemp took place yesterday afternoon. There was a fairly large attendance of Europeans, despite the fact that the date of the funeral came as a surprise. Many of the visiting natives will leave this morning for Hawke’s Bay, where another tangi is in progress.
emr The first of the series of euclire tournaments arranged by the Hockey Association for the purpose of raising funds to assist the ladies’ representative team to visit Auckland was held in Wootton’s rooms last evening. About 200 attended, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Great credit :.s due to the committee (Miss Mona Parker. Mrs. 11. N- Jones, and Messrs. Ogilvie, Parks, and Lewis) for the excellent arrangements'that were made. The prize-winners were:— Ladies—First prize (presented by Mr. H. Armstrong). Miss Easdown; sec■oud (presented by Mr. Walker), Mrs. Moseley. Gents —First prize (presented by A. Clark and Co.), Mr. Kay; second (presented by Mr. HGarrett), Mr. Fielding. The booby prizes were annexed by Miss M. Fairlie and Mr. G. How Chow. A similar tournament will be held on June 28.
