A DESTRUCTIVE GALE.

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE AT PAHIATUA.

[PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.]

PAHIATUA, June 17. A gale which prevailed yesterday was the severest felt in Pahiatua for many years. Considerable damage was done, several large plate glass windows in the main street being blown in and fences and trees being blown down.

At Mangatainoka the roof of the Dudley Arms Hotel was lifted bodily from the building and was carried across the road and came in contact with the telegraph wires about 40vds distant, breaking eight out of the ten wires.

The portion of the roof carried away comprised twenty-one sheets of tenfoot iron and a large number of rafters.
