PERSONAL NOTES.
An Invercargill P.A. telegram states that owing tq some unfortunate misunderstanding a report gained currency yesterday to the effect that Mr Robert Cleave had died at Avenal. Mr- Cleave is not dead. Baron Marshall v. 511 Bioberstein. the new German Ambassador, who succeeds Count Paul (says a cable) WolfMotternich, has arrived in London.
Cr John Smith, who has been amember of the Wellington City Council since 1885, and was Acting-Mayor during Mr. Wilford’s absence through illness, was yesterday presented by the Wellington citizens with a purse of sovereigns in recognition of the services rendered to the city. The presentation was made by the Mayor, Mr D- McLaren.
