There was sunshine to-day, when the m‘atc’h between the Australians and Surrey was resumed at the Oval. The attendance was small, and the wicket soft. ' With two wickets down for 37, Jennings and Bardsley resumed Australia’s first innings. The batsmen played -carefully. A total of 50 appeared in 65 minutes, Jennings went lbw to Rushby, after set ring 32. He batted 80 minutes, his play being stylish. The rest' made a poor stand. Surrey’s fourth and fifth wickets gave little trouble. Then another good stand was followed by a total collapse. Abel and Myers added 76. for the sixth wicket, and the remaining four provided a single eachAt the tea adjournment Surrey had lost four wickets for 170 runs, Bird 2, Abel 3.

After Tea. On resuming the attendance totalled 6000. Hazlitt and Emery were bowling. Bird was taken in Hszlitfs first over at mid-on, behind the bowb ei.v Five for 170. - Myers joined Abel, and runs were made quickly: a total of 200 appeared in ISO minutes.

Australia, requiring 329 to win, opened with Jennings and Mayne ter the bowling of Rushby and Hitch. The latter put ou a tremendous pace, fu his second over Jennings hit, missing the ball, and retired with a split finger. Probably he will bat later in the innings. Mayne, before scoring, gave a chance at the wickets off Rushby. Mayne and Macartney played outturn?, and stumps were drawn with the score standing at 27 for the loss of nowickets. Gregory is now much better.
