NOTES OX THE RACING. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club was fortunate in its postponement as today the weather was perfect- The attendance fell off onsiderablv, but this was only to be expected. ” . in the June Steeplechase five runners\weht to the post,' but four of them met with disaster and at the finish AYhukaweira won by a furlong. At the second fence of the double in front of the stand Glenmore ran off and took Tyrannic with him. Then The Spaniard did the falling act at the same fence in the next round. Meanwhile two others careered on, but Glenmore and Tyrannic had again set after them, .though they were a furlong behind. At the sod wall the last time round, Flamingo, who had been jumping well, fell and AYliakaweira was left to linish alone.

The Paisano was again heavily supported in the big hurdle race,‘but lie was unable to act in the. sticky going and his feet kept slipping from under him. He finished last, but there, is no reason to take this form seriously as on tOp of the ground lie would be a vastly different horse. Twice he was nearly down in the race, and Julian, who rode the winner, told your correspondent that he did not lo ow how he kept his feet. -Six furlongs from home Idealism ran to the front, .ard though Elfish challenged strongly at the last fence he was no match far the Karamu gelding who won easily.

Except in the concluding event, when a hot favorite in Tlirave won, the other results were surprises. Deely, who had the mount - on Tlu'ave, has now ridden 85 winners this season. He is attending the Napier and Gisborne meetings and then leaving for Australia to. ride R, J. Mason’s team at Randwick and the suburban meetings, lie Im-i a lead «'f over forty on the next jockey, and, of course, has- won the trophies for the most successful jockey of the season. If he rides five more winners he will create new figures in the record of winning mounts. C. Jenkine at present- holds the record, having once ridden 89 winners-
