A match was played on Saturday on the Childer’s Road ground between the team selected to go to Christchurch and a B team. Tho teams were as follow: — Reps, (maroon). —Crighton, Hughes and A. Webster (capt.), Archibald, Sumner, Oates. Read, Winks, Greene, Wallace and Mawson. The last-named was taking the place of Sharpies, an absentee, at outside-left-B team. —Wright, Hun wick, Gardner, Wolstenholme, Hanna, Eardswell, Dick, Bird, Fryer (capt), Campbell, G. Webster. From the kick-off the B’s got a rush on and nearly scored in the first minute. Bird putting in a fine shot which Crighton saved. Even play now ensued for a time, when the B’s made a further attack and forced a corner off Oates. From the kick Hanna put in a shot which just grazed the crossbar. Greene and Winks, for the maroons, now livened things up a bit, and passing nicely, got within shooting distance, hut Hunwick saved after Greene has miskicked. Winks shortly , after struck the crossbar with a powerful drive qft long range. From a good centre by Wallace, Winks again ’got possession, and nut the reps, two up with an unstoppable shot. For the next quarter of an hour the right wing of the reps, had all the honors of the game. Read putting in some excellent work, passing and centreing accurately. A long shot from Read was well directed, but Wright cleverly tipped the sphere over the crossbar. The left wing next took up the running, Hanna feeding his clubmate Wallace, who put in sonio splendid shots from the line, one in particular being a very fine effort. The B’s now took the leather to the other end after some good passing by Bird and G. Webster, but the reps’ defence soon returned the play to their forwards, where Winks came to light with another good shot, which beat Wright and put his side still further ahead. Another attempt by the B s to reduce the lead nearly proved successful, Crighton having to extend himself at'full length to save Ins charge, for which he earned applause.
