[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT) OTTAWA,. July 1. Regina City has been involved in a great catastroplie. A tornado struck the place, levelled several hundred buildings, and killed fifty persons. Communication was cut off with the outer world. Relief trains with doctors ..andl nurses have been despatched frofn Winnipeg. Tlie loss of property is roughly estimated at a million sterling. Most of tli^t- people were crushed in the ruins of their houses. Several motor parties were lifted bodily and hurled blocks away. Six 1 grain elevators were destroyed on the Canadian Pacific tracks. The Parliament buildings, just completed, of reinforced concrete, withstood? the violence of the tornado, but weroibadly shaken. The town generally is a mass of ruins. .

Boats were whirled from the river surface, and carried three-quarters of a mile distant. Fires followed the destruction of the houses, but the fire hall escaped unscathed; consequently the firemen prevented the flames spreading. Pathetic scenes'mark the recovery of bodies. Distracted relatives are searching everywhere for lost. ones. Railway ears were carried into the street®, from the yards.

MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED. DEATH ROLL REDUCED TO 30. (Received July 3, 12.-45 a.m.) OTTAWA, July 2. Martial law has been proclaimed at Regina. Troops are guarding the streets to prevent lawlessness. The death roll is reduced to 30, but a number are missing. Many were blown into tlie lake and drowned. . Other towns are sending help and tents to be erected tor the refugees.
