WRECKED BY A WHALE.
SCHOONER HAS TO BE ABANDONED.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT] LONDON, July 8. The schooner Empire struck a whale in mid-Atlantic, and four days later the crew were forced to abandon the vessel. They were rescued after being three days in, boats. OTTAWA, July 8.
Regarding the collision between a whale and the schooner Empire six of the crew and one passenger who escaped in boats, rowed 120 miles to landward before being picked up by a fishing schooner.
