WAIROA, July 11. Alfred Alexander Berry, charged with firing a rifle at Miss Delia Martin on Sunday, has been committed for trial.
The accused pleaded not guilty. He expressed regret for the occurrence, and said that he never meant to kill or injure Miss Martin. Had he desired to do so she was in his power. Bail was refused.
Andrew Bergensen was remanded to Napier on a charge of breaking and entering at Makaretu, and stealing a packet, of books, 18s, and a promisorv note for £IOO.
