“FACING THE FOE.” A BENEFIT PERFORMANCE. “Facing the Foe,” a stirring story of the Crimean AA’ar, was produced by the Rice Dramatic Company at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, under the most successful auspices, the object of tlie entertainment being to raise funds for the benefit of the widow and four children of the late R. There was a large audience present, and a good many unused tickets were sold, a total in the vicinity of £SO being .netted as a result of the production. The Rico Company succeeded in their presentation of the military drama, the several stirring situations being fit aged with a careful precision and much ability- _ Tlie costuming was good, and the limited scenery at the company’s disposal was made the most of. The following was the cast of characters:—Colonel Edgerton, Mr Jack Nicolas: Air. John Davenaiit All*. Harry Aliev • Monsieur Grencuille. Air. Tom Holdswortli; Jonathan Bull, Mr. R. H, Clark; Paul Davenant, Air. Alf. Rice, jun.; Ivan Orloff, Air- Claude Loftuse; Private Alnrnhy, Air. Harry Coulston; Joe Cricket, Air. Cleopatra Bull, Aliss Ray Nelson; Mona (maid to' the Countess), Aliss Jean Carter. All the above succeeded individually, and there was a judicious amount of humor, interwoven with the three acts. Tlie interest of the audience was maintained throughout, and the sensational denouement was the signal for unstinted aiWause. The East Coast Trades and Labor Council were responsible foy the general arrangements, and credit is due to their officials for the manner in wlneli they conducted tlie whole affair. During an interval, the president of tlie Council. Air. J. C. E. Turner, thanked all those present for their attendance, and called for a vote of thanks to the Rice Company. Tins was carried by acclamation.
