THE STRANDED STEAMER.
SALVAGE WORK PROCEEDING
There were no developments of particular interest, cut on the Star of Canada yesterday, although salvage operations proceeded briskly ali day. A considerable amount of grain was transferred to the hoppers and jettisoned further out to sea, and it is believed that another day’s work will see the whole of the grain cleared away. A start will then he made on the removing of the lead and antimony from the bottom of hold No. 3.
Meantime the prevailing weather conditions are favoring the salvagers, and it is to be hoped that the prophesied storm nail Ip ass over. The pumps are making a good impression, notwithstanding the fact that there is as yet, no noticeable difference in the position of the steamer- The additional pumps are still oil the wharf and will not be taken aboard until final preparations are made for pumping cut No. 2 as well as the third hol'd. The divers are still making investigations and. as will be noii'-cd in the report of yesterday's inquiry. Diver Walters succeeded in locating the two missing anchors. Future developments will 1.-e interesting. While not communicative the authorities are still hopeful of success.
The first mishap that has ocrurred aboard since the stranding, happened cn Mondav night, when a laborer named Fry sustained slight injury through falling into a hold. H? had almost completely recovered yesterday. apart from several bruises and a severe shaking.
