PREFERRED BEST MAN.
AND USED THE BRIDEGROOM'S MOTOR CAR TO ELOPE IN.
Miss C-lara Louise Barker, daughter of the Mayor of Gainesville, Georgia, was to have been married to Mr. Edwin Gilbert. Instead of doing so she eloped with the best man, Mr Benjamin Sullivan, using Mr Gilbert’s ear to run away in. Everything was ready for the wedding, and the bridesmaids had assembled at the Parker mansion, when, unobserved, the couple left the wedding guests and raced to Atlanta, where they were married in haste.
The bride telephoned to her »no?v.er. “I love Ben best,” she- said; “he is my best sweetheart;” and Mr. Sullican confided to the mother on the telephone, “I just had to marry her.”
Hie bridegroom took the news philosophically enough, remarking: “I congratulate myself- I have had a lucky escape; but I hope they will return my motor-car in good condition.”
