A SERIOUS LAND-SLIP.
WEST COAST RAILWAY BLOCKED[PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION'.3 CHRISTCHURCH. -Julv 17. Passengers bv the West Coast train did not arrive in Christchurch till 10.50 this evening, consequent on a considerable landslip half a mile on the Springfield side c-f Avoea. It- is estimated that more than 1000 tons of earth came clown, and as a consequence cue side of the Rue was lifted from six to eight feet from the surface. The train from Cass conveying trie West Coast passengers was unable to proceed past the • obstruction. and a relief train was sent out from Darfield and brought- the passengers to town. ... ... It will be several day-, it is anticipated. before the obstruction n cleared and the line restored. In- the meantime arrangements nave been made to continue communication bv conveying passengers to tne block and carrying them by another tram to and from Cass.
