During a thunderstorm in the Vale •of Evesham a cowman named George Halford, employed by Mr Benjamin Carter, of Wickhamford, two miles from Evesham, was killed by lightning. He was walking across an open field when he was struck. His cap was burned, his hair Ringed, and bis right boot torn, off his foot. Halford was forty-five years of age, and was married about twelve months ago. Members of the Royal Meteorological Society ini London have discussed the mystery of black rain. Mr C. J P. Cave gave a detailed account of a thunderstorm in Hampshire and Sussex on March 11, when a quantity of black rain fell. He thought there was little doubt that the intense darkness, described by one observer as like a London fog. was such in reality , andthat the black rain was due to soot from London. THOROUGHNESS.
