The contest started last Friday morning off
Ivaipara bar, the Eliza Firth clearing harbor at 10.10 a.m. and the Aratapu twenty minutes later. A fresh northeaster carried both sailers clown the coast in good style, and the vessels were in close company all the way to Lyttelton. The Eliza .Firth had a slight advantage of the Aratapu at the finish, and entered Lyttelton Heads at an early hour yesterday morning, the latter vessel passing through a little later at St 10 a.m. Both vessels made the passage in excellent time, being under four days on the trip.
