THE RUGBY GAME.
POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION. NEW COMPETITION TO BE INSTITUTED. A special general meeting of the Poverty Bay Rughv Union was held 'last evening to consider the question of closing the senior and junior competitions and instituting a fresh competition. Mr A. R. Gat-land .presided and there was a large attendance. It- was decided to close, the present competitions and after discussion Mr Maude moved that four teams he selected by the four captains of the local teams. Mr decker moved an amendment' that the selection committee consist of Mr AY. Howard and two senior captains to ho selected by the management committee. The amendment
was lost. Ah- J Eaton then moved that the selectors consist of the four senior captains and four junior captains with * Air Howard as arbitrator. This was seconded bv Air Maude and carried. The captains will meet at the Royal Hotel at 7.510 to-night and draw tor order of selection. They will then pick four teams one by one until they have a full complement. Two rounds will he played for either trophies or caps and each team will adopt an entirely new name to that which pertained in the previous competition. A meeting of the Management- Committee of the Rugby Union was held subsequently when it was decided that as many members as possible should attend the meeting to be held to-night ■for the selection of team-. The following matches were arranged : Thursday.—St. Patrick’s v. Gisborne. Saturday.—Third grade: High School v. Garrison, Domain, 1. 15 ■p.m.: Schools: Gisborne v. Concert, No. 1. 1) Id a.m.: Te Hapnra v. Alan gapapa No. 1. II a.m.; ATakarak:! Tvaiti No. 2, 11 a.m. LEAGUE PLAYERS RE-INSTATED. STIR IN AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL CIRCLES. A stir has been caused in football circles through the Queensland Rugby Union re-instatimr a number of League players, who, becoming, dissatisfied, implied for enrolment in the amateur ranks.
It is stated that the New South AVales Union opposed the re-instate-ment. but had no voice in the matter, as Queensland is under a different constitution.
