MORE PERMITS SOUCHTrDEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. PALMERSTON N., July 22. As the Premier passed through here to-day to Napier Air Buick, M.P.,- introduced a deputation of trotting clubs. Air Fred Nathan asked for a to.talisator permit. Last- year they managed to carry out successful meetings without a permit, chiefly by donations, which came mainly from the farmers, but they did not wish t» bo dependent on donations, and as their object was to encourage the breeding of horses or a useful type be thought they should be permitted the help of the totalisator. There were no other trotting clubs within a wide radius, and tho North Island had a fewer number of trotting clubs than the South Island. He suggested that another day should be allowed- if necessary taking it from a club that was hotter'off as was done in the ease of Ran-gitikei. air AV. MadKenzie asked for a permit for the Manawatu Hunt Club. Air Massey said that the 250 days allowed by Statute could not be exceeded bv legislation. As a result of the AVellington conference a private Bill Mould be introduced to increase the number of days and would he treated as a non-party question. Being a- policy question' he could not commit the Government to more than this.
