As reported in these columns recently. tlie Waikohu County Council decided to offer the Gisborne Borough Council a truck load of metal in order that its merits might be tested. The offer came before tlie Council last evening, and was accepted with thanks.

Tlie Wanganui Borough Council tonight considered its’ solicitors’ opinion over the contract for the rowbridge. The contractor has abandoned the work, as the piles will not drive. The Council decided to give the contractor final notice to proceed with his conn act.—P.A.

To the Borough Council last ing the Building Inspector reported that in the past people had been allowed to erect sign boards under their verandahs much below the height required by the by-law (9ft Cm.), and now when ho askeu that they pe kept at the height required much objection was raised. Was it possible to have the old ones removed and re-erected properly -so that all come under tinsame head? The Council decided that the present sign-boards should remain as they were, that any erected in the future should he built in conformity with the by-law.
