THE LOAN PROPOSALS.
(To the Editor.) Si:.—lt looks very much as if the new loans are going to be lost. The Mayor Oil'. Pettie) apparently feels the position very keenly. I am very sorry for him, but what else could he expect ? There has never keen a town vet that would stand this “in camera' business. Al! along the people who par the rates have been dissatisfied; but the Council would not take them into its confidence. What has completely upset the municipal apple-cart has been the manner in which the f comfort of ratepayers has been ne-? sleeted. Apparently the game has been to trv and do without any expenditure of a non-permanent character. Look at the crossings to-day—-tliev are a disgrace even in the centre of the town. In this matter the ratepayers have had a perfect eye-opener tills winter. If the road loan were carried it would simply meau that next- winter we might- not he much better off. If tlie loan is lost I expect Mr- Pettie and the Council to resign, which is up to them.—Yours, etc., MUD LARK.
