BEAUTY SPECIALIST.
MASSEUSE COMPLAINS OF- NONINITIATION INTO MYSTERIES.
A beauty specialist, Mrs Millicent Diprose, trading as Mme. Elvira, of Lower Belgrave Street, London, S.W., was sued in respect of her arts of beauty renovation, by Miss Kathleen Cockburn, a medical masseuse, win. complained that she did not initiate hpr into these mysteries.
The case was .heard at the Westminster County Court. Miss Cockburn, of Mecklenburgh Square, sued for damages for breach of contract to teach her manicuring and face and body massage. Miss Cockburn, the daughter.of a hospital-trained nurse, replied t’o an advertisement for a lady to learn massage, and her case was that she paid £2O premium, and at the end ol tniw exhibitions in Regent Street, paying her 5s a week expenses. She claimed the return of her £2O and £l3 further for loss of,salary for the three mourns, as she could have earned £1 a week elsewhere had she nut gone to defendant. Only on two occasions did she do any work, that being manicuring. Miss Cockburn admitted that she wrote to three of the customers after she left asking whether she gave them satisfaction during treatment. In one letter she said she attended the customer on four occasions. She saw patients treated. Mrs Edith Dale, who entered into a contract to learn, said she had to learn by watching. Mine Elvira stated that there were 210 cases while Miss Cockburn wan with her, and she missed forty-one of them while she was at The exhibition. Tiie witness had special flesh methods. Counsel: Taking away double chins and things of that-kind? —Yes. As to the exhibition ? —I let her go there for her own advantage, offering 20 per cent, on any business she obtained.
During the first three months she never allowed a pupil to do anything, as a client might object to be treated by a novice. His Honor held that Miss Cockburn had reeived certain tuition, and gave judgment, with costs, for Aline. Elvira.
