QUITE A NOVEL SUGGESTION.
(to the editor.) Sir, —The ratepayers of the Borough aro being asked to-morrow to sanction a loan for the purpose of confirming the use of Gentle Annie stone to improve our streets —a most commendable project and worthy of our economical administrators, who deserve the gratitude of the community for their zeal in the public benefit. I would sugegst, sir, that a good coating of Gentle Annie stone be laid on our streets, and as it will probably in a short time he well pulverised by traffic thereon and after a few good showers or rain, the slush when scraped off would bo in a nice condition for mixing cement with it for moulding into concrete blocks for kerbs and- channelling, any surplus concreting material could be utilised in forming concrete blocks suitable for builders and sold, thereby adopting another economic method to lessen the burden of heavy rates.
