NOTES AND NOTICES.
The anniversary services of the Te Hapara S.S Hall will be celebrated to-morrow. Rev. J. A. Lodi ore will officiate in the morning, and Missioner J. A. Jones at 7 p.m. Special music will he rendered at each cervine. Communion will be celebrated in the morning.
“Tlie Best Role,” being the sixth address on the Prodigal Son, wii] be Rev J. A. Lochore’s subject at the Methodist Church to-morrow evening. An anthem and solo will be rendered. Missioncr J. A. Jones will conduct the morning service The monthly P.S.A., to which all are invited, will be held at 2.45 in the afternoon. To-day is the last day of Messrs. Guthrie and Madclceks’ great clearance sale at the London House. To effect a clearance, reductions will be made on all lines, and oddments and remnants will he sacrificed at half their market price. The Albion Club Hotel is at present being lighted throughout bv electricity. The installation is being carried out bv Messrs. Holferd and Co.
His Worship the Mavor (Mr. W. Pettie) will preside at tlio lecture to he delivered by Miss Horne, under the auspices of the Theosophical Society, at Wcotton’s Rooms, at 7 o’clock tomorrow evening. The subject of the lecture will be, “After Death— What?”
Upstairs in Dunlop’s Buildings, Lowe Street, is to be found the Poverty Bay Billiard Parlor, the largest, best appointed, and most popular billiard room in Gisborne. Three fastrunning, perfectly true tables are kept constantly going. Everyone welcome. * Our advertising columns announce on behalf of the Gisborne Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society that Rev. F. H. Spencer, the colonial agent of the society, is to lecture at the Patutahi Anglican Church on Monday night, and at the Baptist Tabernacle on Tuesday night, on the operations of the society. Tire marvellous work of the society during tlie 108 years of its existence calls for the heartiest support of every lover of the Bible. The subscriptions from this wealthy district are small. Three persons subscribe a large proportion between them of tlie total remittances. The Te Ran students have kindly promised to assist, and other gentlemen will address the meeting. It is hoped that there will be a good attendance and collections.
The subjects for consideration by Rev T. Keith Ewen in the Baptist Tabernacle to-morrow will be: Morning, 11 a.m., “The Peace of God a Protection” ; evening, 7 p.m., “A Surrender that Marked the Forward Movement of Christianity.” Anthem by choir. Bible classes for young men aiid young women at a quarter to 3. Rev. Wm. Grant will speak on tlio question of “Sabbath Observance” at the morning service to-morrow. The evening subject is “Escape for thy Life.”
A very up-to-date butter factory ls being erected at Tolaga Bay. The plans for this factory are the work of Messrs. Jas. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., and provide good accommodation for the plant, compact, but allowing plenty of room to comfortably work the various machines employed in the factory. Messrs. Niven and Co. are sumilying for the factory a lj-ton inde refrigerating plant for cool storage and water cooling, also a 27-J----13.H.P. National gas engine and gas producer plant to supply power for driving the machinery. Malcolm and Co. sell stock-in-trade of country storekeeper to-morrow at 2 p.m., also bicycles, furniture, and sundries.
