ABSENCE FROM MILITARY DRILL.
STIFF FINES AT PALMERSTON NORTH. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PELMERSTON N., Aug. 6. A number of young men were fined yesterday for non-attendance at territorial drills. T. AY. Hill said he was an invalid under five doctors, but when the medical certificates were passed in ho was fined 5s and 7s costs.
R. Ross, who did not appear, but whoso father testified that ho had been wrongly served, as the summons’ were left at the bouse instead of i>ersonally delivered, also that as notices to attend camp were wrongly addressed lie sent them back through the Post Office, was fined! 40s and 10s costs. AY. Andrew, E. It- Erehora, "VY. .Smith, AV. P. Lees, AY. F. J. Boswell, and AA’. Person were fined 30s and 7s costs. AVilliam C. Healey was fined IQs and 7s costs. Two cases were withdrawn after explanations.
