[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] 33" AN GAN UI, Aug. 0. A judgment haring a far-reaching effort if allowed to stand was given by 31 r. Kerr, S.3L, this morning in a case under tlie Gaming Act against a local confectioner charged with establishing a lottery. Defendant exhibited in a window a glass globe full of small lollies, and customers spending a shilling had a chance of calculating the number in the jar. The prize was a guinea. The police alleged that it was a game of chance, defendant claimed it to i,o a game of skill. The information was dismissed. An appeal is probable. CHARGE' OF PUBLISHING BETTING CIRCULAR DIS3IISSED. WELLINGTON, Aug. 0 : Reserved judgment was delivered to-day in the case of tho police v. Stellin, in which the latter was charged with publishing betting charts and circular relating to betting on horse races. The circulars and chart had been sent to the police, but there was no evidence to show who had posted them from Nelson. The information was dismissed.
