WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
REPORT OF MONTHLY MEETING
(Special to Times.) WAIPIRO BAY, August 6. At the monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council there were present: Crs. Oates, Murphy, Knox, and Wickstead. It was proposed by Cr. Knox, seconded by Cr. Oates, that Cr. Murphy take the chair, which was carried. A letter was received from the Cook County Council suggesting two members of the Cook, Waikohu and AVaiapu Councils form a deputation to proceed to Wellington to Lay before the Ministry affairs for the welfare of the counties.—lt was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Wickstead, seconded by Or. Knox, that the Chairman and Cr. Murphy form the Council’s representatives on the deputation. A letter was received from the Clerk of the Whakatane County Council forwarding a resolution, viz., “that it is time the registration of all dogs should be vested in European local bodies only, not as at present when Maori Councils registered Maori dogs, and local bodies register only dogs owned by the Europeans.”—lt was proposed by Cr. Oates, and seconded by Cr. Wickstead, that tin's Council quite endorse the proposal.—Carried. A telegram was received from the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advance Office, stating that a £SOOO loan for Rot-okautuku was finally approved and the debentures posted. _ An application was received from the Mangaliawini Incorporated Company for a slaughterhouse license.— It- was proposed by the Chairman, and seconded by Cr. Oates, that when an application is sent in proper form and advertisements attached, the matter will be considered.—Carried.
The engineer’s report- was read. Arising out of the report the Chairman moved, and Cr. Wickstead seconded, that Mr Holt be written-to and thanked for the. valuable assistance given'to the engineer whilst prospecting the AYaikura-Whangaparao road. —Carried. Cr. AYickstead proposed,' and Cr. Oates seconded, that the engineer be given authority to survey' the road through Mr Holt’s property at AVaikura. —Carried. It was proposed bv Cr. Knox, seconded bv the chairman, that tenders be called for erecting a retaining wall at the river bank at Te Araroa. and that tenders be called for metalling the road to the wharf. —Carried. It- was proposed by Cr. A\ lcksteacl, seconded bv Cr. Knox, that a small groin be erected in front of Reedy s at Waitakaha. The overseer’s report was road, it was proposed by Or. Knox, seconded bv the chairman, that those offenders against tli-c by-law as to the* width of cart tyres mentioned in the report be nrosecuied. —Carried. __ The Council thou went into committee. On resuming the following tendors wei*o accepted : —Contract 18-1-., Berrott- Prentice, £617; contract 2412, John Harvey, £504; contract 2b--12, Smith Bros., £497. It was proposed by Cr. Wickstead,. seconded by Cr.. Knox, that- the Chief Postmaster, Gisborne, lie written to and asked whether he will let- a separate contract for a mail coach service between Tokomaru and Port- Awanui, as it was most necessary, at the samo time suggesting tbe most convenient service, as northwards, Mondays and Thursdays, southwards Tuesdays and Fridays; also pointing out that the Council consider the- roads will bo in excellent order next summer for wheeled traffic.—Carried. , It was proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Cr. Oates, that- the engineer be instructed to report and insooct the promised deviation at Ore-tuno-a. on the'Tuaka road.—Carried. Accounts totalling £2039 8s 9d wero passed for payment.
