ENTERTAINMENTS

BATHE PICT CItES. The current programme at His Majesty's Theatre again provided excellent entertainment for a good audience last night. The- series, which is nicely varied, is well up to the usual high standard, and the frequent applause which followed the screening of the principal films proved that those present were more than satisfied with the fare provided. The star drama, “Tile Ballet Dancer,” is a well-acted play, in which a somewhat amorous author takes the leading role. While in love witli Camille, a dancer, he lays violent siege to the heart of a banker’s wife. He makes an assignation with the lady, and Camille, in a jealous fit, informs the banker’s wife. The banker arrives on the scene, and a tragedy follows. Later Camille finds someone more worthy of Inr love. Tiie acting in this film is particularly line, ami though somewhat tragic, the story is excellently presented. “Playmates” is a pretty little drama, in which a stray dog succors a little boy who has been callously deserted by his parents. Mr John Bunny, the popular Vitagraph comedian, is seen at his best- in “Bunny and the Twins.” The twins try every artifice to capture Bunny, and his frantic efforts to dodge their ton pressing attentions cause unbounded merriment. “The Transformation of Mike” is a well-acted play, in which a “crook” is reformed through the refining influences of a good girl’s love. r l he latest Rathe Gazette is more than usually interesting. in this the arrival of the Red Star liner “Lapland,” with the survivors from the “Titanic” disaster, is a most interesting scene. Another good item is a thrilling reproduction of a fierce street fight between motor bandits of Paris and the Gendarmes. The humorous subjects are all of merit, and the whole programme is most entertaining. T.his fine series will be repeated to-night, when several new pictures will also be introduced. EUCHRE PARTY. The Poverty Bay Hockey Association held a very successful euchre party in Wnoiton’s rooms last evening. There was an excellent attendance, over one hundred and twentylive people occupying the tables. Owing to the deadlock at Auckland, the annual hockey tournament will take place at -Christchurch. Consequently tfic trip will cost a great deal more than was -estimated, and the Association- has decided to hold a tew more euchre parties, the dates of which arc to i>o announced later. C.EAI.S.
