MAXAWATU (3) v. TARANAKI (1)
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON, Aug. 1-1. The Manawatu hockey representatives defeated Taranaki by 3 to 1 in heatitihil weather and with good ground conditions. Manawatu rushed right in from the bully. Hammer searing. Tlioy kept up the attack, which was varied bv occasional Taranaki rallies, and narrowly escaped addins two more goals. Then Fitt scored. Ihul.s were changed, with Manawatu 2. Taranaki nil.
Late in the second spell Hammer sullied a third goal for Manawatu. and .r. Harris then secured the visitors’ onlv r.rorc.
Play was very fast and good, and repeatedly other scores were only averted in the nick of time.
