PRESIDENT TAFT AGAIN.
THE STEEL BILL VETOED. [UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION COPYEIGHT] WASHINGTON, Aug. .14. President Taft has vetoed the Steel Bill on the ground that the measure did not afford protection to American industries, and was merely intended for revenue purposes only. The President refused the Ways and Means Committee, because it refused nublic hearings before passing the Bill. ' . OVER THE VETO. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT] (Received August 15. 11.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 15. The House of Representatives adopted the Steel Tariff Bill over the presidential veto by 173 votes to 73.
ARMY APPROPRIATION BILL
(Received August 16. 12.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 15.
The Senate has passed the Army Appriation Bill replacing the Bill .vetoed bv President Taft.
As the new Bill omits provision for dismissing General Wood as Chief of Staff President Taft will veto it. In consequence of the veto on tlie previous Bill the army services are., left without funds.
The Senate has passed the Cotton Bill, a Democratic measure with an amendment repealing Canadian reciprocity except as regards pulp and paper.
