PROTESTS AGAINST HIS APPOINTMENT.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT] LONDON, Aug. 14.
The “Daily Telegraph’s” Peking correspondent states that a deputation of officials waited on Marquis Yuan Shih Kai, the President, and protested against Dr. Morrison’s appointment as adviser. They explained that only departmental- experts were required, and the country would not tolerate an alien being entrusted with the secrets of general andl political affairs. Marquis Yuan Shih Kai reserved his reply, and it is expected that a compromise will be arranged. Advices from Tientsin state that Germany and Japan are strongly opposing Dr Morrison’s appointment.
