An interesting development, in lifeboat building is being made at Fail-lie, Scotland. Messrs Fife have started the construction of collapsible lifeboats ocean liners. They have completed thenfirst boat, and in order to test, it thoroughly, they anchored it overnight in Fail-lie Bay, when there was a good wind, the water being by no means smooth. It shipped no water whatever, and the test was considered thoroughly satisfactory. The firm is using steel framing in the construction of the boats with larch and pine for the planking wherever necessary, and specially woven canvas for covering. The design provides a bout large enough to carry 50 persons.
