FOOTBALL THE RUGBY GAME. “WELLINGTON (20) v. HAWKE’S BAY (11). [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.! NAPIER, Aug. 21. Wellington defeated Hawke’s Bay in a Rugby football match here to-day by 20 points to 15. ' The first half was very even and ended with the scores level-—lO points eavh. Both teams played with good 'Combination, anti the backs got in some good passing work. Wellington had the best of the opening part of the. second spell, and added 7 points before Hawke’s Bay scored. The latter livened up near the end of the game anti added five points. Hawke’s Bay .were attacking vigorously when the whistle blew for no-side. Cunningham. Bovd, Sullivan and Evenson scored tries and Dingle and Nunn potted goals for Wellington. Parohiwi and Johnston secured" tries, one of which .Smith converted. ’The latter kicked a. penalty goal and Ashton potted a goal for the losers.
WELLINGTON (241 v." BAY OF PLENTY (9). ROTORUA, Aug. 21. The Wellington representatives played the Bay of Plenty here to-day in fine weather. The visitors were superior in both backs and forwards, and had the best of the game throughout. The first spell ended in favor of Wellington by 10 points to 6, the local scores being notched through mulls on the part of the backs. For Wellington, Welton, Mackenzie and Elliott crossed the line.
